MATERIALS ASSEMBLY WEEK

Upon completion of materials handling duties, learners again move up the career ladder into materials assembly. The team project for this section of the curriculum is improving quality assurance practices.

The materials assembly setting provides the context for skills training in:

  • reading work specifications in blueprints and diagrams
  • visually inspecting parts
  • and assembling all the parts to specification
  • testing finished product to see that it functions properly
  • calibrating sensitive electronic testing instruments
  • and then troubleshooting problems
  • creating internal work orders
  • reporting information across shifts
  • working in teams to improve productivity
  • importance of following quality processes
  • recording quality control data
  • analyzing both data and procedures to improve quality.
