Although an EnterTech
instructor is not expected to be students'
social worker, they should respond constructively
to student difficulties. Together, students
and instructors can broaden community
awareness and individual resourcefulness
in utilizing community supports.
The EnterTech online
bulletin board is a useful tool to post
helpful information and resources. Additionally,
each EnterTech student receives a Personal
Planner, a workbook addressing the intersections
of life and work. It includes activities
designed to help the learner define a
support network of family and friends.
It also contains important information
about such topics as money management,
childcare and transportation. The learner
can create individualized contingency
plans and problem-solve personal areas
of concern.
Other instructional
activities engage students in peer-to-peer
interactions through group-based activities
and discussions facilitated by the instructor.
Modeling trusting and supportive relationships
within the classroom develops transferable
skills, as well as provides emotional
support. Many learners can feel distracted
or isolated by their personal problems.
Yet by sharing and learning within a community,
students build individual resourcefulness
and confidence.
